Turning a Trenton Climbing Gym Dream into a Reality

Volta Climbing Gym

  • Location - ,

Doors opened April 2022.

Located just a few miles from Acadia National Park on the coast of Maine, the 10,000-square-foot Volta Climbing gym will feature bouldering and roped climbing, along with a Kilter Board, fitness and cardio equipment, a classroom/event room, and an upstairs yoga space on a mezzanine.

“The dream for a climbing gym in Downeast Maine has been alive for decades, with two attempts that ended in disappointment. With our team spanning five decades in age, we are on an arc of time and experience that has given this project heart and bones. Its time has come.” the Volta website reads.

The space was designed with an intention to be a try-hard destination for dedicated climbers that live and travel here to climb, as well as a point of discovery for those just stepping into the world of climbing.

This area possesses such a rich climbing heritage, so it was an amazing opportunity for EP to help build out a dream that so many have shared for years. The facility has 4,500 sq ft of lead/top rope wall at 35-40 feet tall, 3,500 sq ft of bouldering with walls raninging 14-16 ft high, dedicated introductory areas for both bouldering and ropes, and a tiered rappel station for SAR training.

Programming will include adaptive climbing, gym to crag, climbing teams, classes, yoga, comps and events.
